Cheap Video Games (Are you a drunken clown?)

Cheap and Discount Video GamesThere are two kinds of video game buyers: intelligent shoppers and the “drunken clown in space” folk. Smart buyers get the good deals and spend their money wisely. The clowns flail their arms and throw money in every possible direction. Not a pretty sight.

My personal triumps over Big Brother have netted me some sweet game deals over the last few years. Discounts ranging from a few pennies to half-off brand new games have graced my grinning wallet. It’s a simple matter of smart shopping, comparison buying, and lots of patience. You, too, can become a cheap video game connoisseur with just a few tweaks in your buying habits. Once you feel that rush of saving one, two, maybe even three cents on a video game purchase, you’ll never go back.

  • Rent First If you aren’t sure your love affair with the game will last, renting is a vital first step. I use an online rental service to try before I buy and save the trouble of buying, hating, and re-selling.
  • Cycle the SitesThe next task is to hit the big five. These are the sites I constantly check for gaming deals:
    1. eBay (Check FREQUENTLY, you never know when a great deal will pop up)

    2. Amazon (Usually good prices, but it can be hit-and-miss)
    3. Froogle (Indexes thousands of online retailers. Good for picking up that strange deal)
    4. Ebay Express (Small inventory thus far but huge potential)
    5. Half.com (Often overlooked but filled with good prices)
  • Non-Gaming Site Deals Sometimes companies like Overstock.com buy new games in massive quantities and pass the savings onto us consumers. To keep tabs on these kinds of deals, I monitor two sites:
    1. The Frugal Gamer

    2. Cheapass Gamer
  • Now We Wait After getting an idea what prices are out there, it’s time to wait. Sometimes I let as many as three or four weeks pass before I actually buy a game. If I can’t snag a discounted new copy during that time, used copies will start to appear. A game that’s been used a week or two is hardly a buying risk.
  • Repeat Cycle through the big five sites several times a week, the big break will eventually pop up and you’ll have to be the first to pounce. Expect to save a few dollars on any game purchase, but watch for shipping/handling charges, as some retailers will ream you with these hidden numbers.

There, now you can stop being a drunken clown in space and lean more toward the savvy video game buyer. These internet deals are just the tip of the iceberg in scoring cheap video games, but it’s an excellent first step.

You can also trade your games for points and use those points to get other games for just $1 on http://www.goozex.com. I’m the head of marketing with Goozex and its really easy for me to sell our service as a great way to save money on video games.
