About a week ago, through a post on the OneUp Studios blog, I learned about the Child’s Play Charity CD 2008. Ok, so I might have been two weeks behind, but considering the speed the internet moves, I’m lucky I found it before 2010. Anyway, featured on the Penny Arcade-endorsed disc are fourteen songs from some of video game music’s best. And, if you ask me, a handful of its worst, too. The tracklist below should speak for itself. If it doesn’t, I speak for it afterwards.

A pretty good CD (especially for just $10), but overall there’s quite a bit of hip hop music on here which, as far as I’m concerned, can crawl in a small hole and die. Then die again. Then die by fire. Fortunately Armcannon, The OneUps, and Anamanaguchi sweep along to save the day with new songs, and Mustin’s remix of the Freezepop song is better than the original. Truth be told, I would have grabbed the disc for Anamanaguchi alone, so everything else is a bonus.
Fourteen tracks in all, five of which are superb, five of which should be erased from my memory, and four you won’t mind listening to from time to time. Throw that in along with the fact that the purchase benefits the Child’s Play charity and you have a sound $10 investment.
