Tim Langdell is still a jerk

edgegame-timIn mid-June I posted a rant about Tim Langdell and his insistence upon keeping the word “edge” out of every video game title known to man. Except the ones he works on, of course. Claiming to have a monopoly on something like this is as absurd as me claiming I own the rights to being warm blooded. Langdell and his team of lawyers seem to disagree, extending their slimy little hands to every corner of the game market and forcing Mobigames to pull its superb arcade puzzler Edge from the iTunes App Store. Jerks.

Just over a week after my post Edge made a quiet return. No explanation, it was just… back. But before anyone could get all fuzzy and think Langdell wasn’t such a bad guy, Mobigame was served with a complaint from an attorney representing Tim Langdell and Edge Games. It repeats the earlier threats about using the word “Edge” in the U.S. and also claims Mobigame copied Langdell’s game Bobby Bearing which is itself is a Marble Madness clone. I feel safe summarizing Mobigame’s David Papazian by quoting one word: “Unbelievable.”

Apparently Langdell also filed a trademark on the name “Edge of Twilight”, a phrase that just so happens to be the title of an upcoming steampunk action-adventure game from Fuzzyeye studios. Tim, leave my steampunk alone. Seriously. And while you’re at it, just go away before you make us angry.

Thanks once again to Fingergaming for keeping us up to date on the insanity.
