Gaming backlog becomes pathetic

Final Fantasy IIIIt saddens me to sit here and think of all the great games I have yet to dive into. For starters, Phoenix Wright 2 is sitting on my shelf, sealed, awaiting my attention. I haven’t touched it because I saved the final chapter of the original Phoenix Wright for a rainy day, which incidentally never came until I got the second game. Now I’m halfway through the last case in the first game and eager to begin the sequel.

Next, there’s Hotel Dusk. A great-looking game with an intriguing concept, but not a pick-up-and-play title for sure. It’s more like reading a novel, which is why I haven’t absorbed it: I haven’t had time to read lately (book backlog is another post entirely).

Also… Final Fantasy III, the beautiful 3D remake on the DS, sits barely played in my bedroom. I fired it up last night and gave it a whirl, only to lose interest half an hour later when my body gave in to the call of sleep.

And Puzzle Quest, the poor game, received a hearty helping of attention for several weeks only to enjoy its own spot on my bedside table for the last month.

I won’t even start complaining about not finishing Metroid Prime 2 (only about 25% complete), Paper Mario 2 (90-95% complete), God of War (roughly 40% complete), Call of Juarez (uhhh… ??%), countless indie games I’ve downloaded, and several other games I rented, tasted, and returned because I knew I’d never give them a second look.

Why all the gaming apathy? I honestly have no clue. Time is a huge factor, as I’ve had very little of it free in the last months. When I do have a spare minute, I use it to catch up on the all-important “do nothing” activity. My working theory is that I just need even more time so I can have my nothingness and play my games, too. Until then, I’m a sad excuse for a gamer.

Gee, I find my self going through the same stage, barely any energy at all to play anything. It’s a sad time for a gamer.

John, I gave up ages ago on finishing games. I realized that games are not necessarily for finishing. Books, movies, plays you finish, because the end is necessary to the process. Games on the other hand are games, there to be played. You can certainly hope to finish, or wish you finished, but if you just Zen it out and forget about finishing, things will go a lot more smoothly for you.

The other thing was I had a baby and that made gaming at all fairly impossible.

Goddammit man, play Phoenix Wright 2! It’s pretty great. Hotel Dusk is boring to begin with so maybe you couldn’t get into that easily, Puzzle Quest isn’t necessarily something you play for ages and then are done with it but a game you can always come back to, and you’ve probably already played FF3 in some form. Phoenix Wright needs your love! You see, Edgeworth isn’t even in most of it…

Phoenix Wright is a seriously epic game.

That said, I’d like to try Hotel Dusk. I liked the interactive book feel of PW, so I figure I’d like that one, too. Anyway, too bad you haven’t managed to get into much of that stuff. Just pick some of it up for casual play, anyway. FFIII definitely works well for that.
